Many of you have heard and personally related to the comment Mark Twain once said about quitting smoking being the easiest thing in the world as he had done it several hundred times himself. Unfortunately, the same applies to changing your diet and taking steps to make sure that you are eating healthy and able to meet and maintain a healthy body weight, for the rest of your life. Most people reading this can attest to the fact that most attempts at dieting and changing your eating habits result in only short-term weight loss and that in time most of the weight lost is regained as you revert to your original eating patterns.
The percentage that is often quoted from a very old study on the subject places dieting failure at about 95% and while the study may be somewhat antiquated, the fact remains that according to the World Health Organization figures there are over 1 billion overweight people on the planet today, more than ever before. At the same time more people are attempting to lost weight than ever before and most diet plans, supplements and products profit from the high failure rate as it creates a large number of repeat customers. Why is it so hard for us to change our eating habits and lose weight? Most of us are at least somewhat aware of what not to eat but the change usually proves to be almost impossible, but it is indeed doable if you understand the whys and wherefores behind our ever-tormenting struggles with change.
First you must understand you
Your must first understand your food consumption patterns. If you do and you are patient enough you will be able to change it. Those government-funded and pharmaceutical supported so-called diet gurus would have you believe, a pill, as shot, an exercise machine will simply resolve your problems. If that were the case then everyone would be successful in their attempts at weight control. Much like cancer, the entire weight loss industry wouldn’t need to exist after everyone was successful after the trendy diet of the day, used the weight loss supplements being advertised or followed the in vogue exercise program featured in the magazines and infomercials. The cures are out there… but so many people, companies, hospitals and clinics would close up their doors if the truth were allowed to be told to the public.
That certainly is not the case with every expert. Over the past two decades of helping people with their weight problems I realized that if you honestly are ready to lose weight and keep it off you MUST change your lifestyle permanently. In order for this to happen there must be an unrelenting commitment to a change. Your commitment must be completely devoid of the destructive and self-loathing perspectives and belief that there must be some form of atonement for failures to stay on track. That is stinking thinking! “They” want you to feel guilty and return to the suckers’ treadmill and resign yourself as an utter and total failure. You will be their life long slave.
It is human nature to believe that being ‘wrong’ requires a period of guilt, followed by some sort of soulful payment. The whole concept about eating is wrong. Remember Eve? You slip, eating something that is forbidden and you go into a downward spiral of self-hatred and disgust. This self-infliction is ridicules. Instead G*d slapped her hand (figuratively), removed her from temptation, clothed her, and forgave her. (Sound familiar?) As familiar as it sounds it remains a major obstacle to long-term success. So the Fairy Tale Diet is worked five days at a time. You can make a guilt free lifetime commitment to five days at a time!
Do not let guilt make changing even harder
The reality is, there isn’t anything that you can do to make up for a slip in your diet. Nothing at all. Accept the moment… Stop thinking negative and start fresh the next. You may be on the Fairy Tale Diet but… we do not have a magical wand for negative thinking. This way of thinking leads to too many eating disorders and a very twisted relationship with food. Accept the slips for what they are; learning experiences to teach us that we need to be better and stronger than what “they” want from us!
This change is forever! Not some limited idea of getting into shape for summer or for some upcoming event or vacation! No one ever became overweight overnight and we must accept the reality that permanent change happens over the course of many five days at a time, that become months, years, and decades. Do not think about weeks or that getting into shape is just for a fling. This has to be a long-term day by day process that helps you learn to take care of yourself not just to be looking great in a swimsuit. Nothing worth achieving in this life comes quickly. Controlling your eating habits is no exception! It takes practice and it takes patience.
On a personal note, while many look at my body today and the determination that it took not indulge in processed foods of any kind, most overlook the fact that it takes decades to get there, and without any of the slips and mess ups I fell into along the way, I never could have learned the amazing lessons that allow me to be able to share them with you! I lost the same 90 pounds 8 times in my life before I discovered the Fairy Tale Diet! … Join me and never look back again!
Understanding The Dynamics Behind Learned Behavior
Another important fact is accepting that you are no longer going to eat unhealthy foods, knowing that for you… they are poison! The very habits that we seek to change only resurface because they are not completely forgotten. As long as new and old ways of thinking are still rattling around in your head… they will always be fighting against you unless you take steps to disarm and cut those undesirable attitudes.
It is only when you are able to enjoy foods that are good for you that you will be able to break the cycle. Again, it does not happen overnight. Your new ‘comfort food’ will be foods that make you physically feel better and not junk foods that may lure you in while wreaking havoc on your body. The temptation to indulge in the foods that you wish to avoid will fade into the background, a temptation that over time would simply become as unattractive as a lost battering love affair.
If you take small steps, large tasks are easily accomplished.
Take it from one who is on the journey a few paces ahead of you, as you get stronger, escape the darkness and start to see the light in the tunnel, you will be opening the doors to a whole new way of perceiving the world. One where limits are constantly being re-evaluated and where the seemingly impossible task of breaking free of the perpetually destructive cycle of weight loss and weight gain becomes very much a reality for you to enjoy.
Can you see my point! Well, I do pray for each and every one of you to find success. I can only help you see if I can show you the words that will open your heart to finally love and for give yourself. You must begin now to resolve to never turn back… to see that you were sold a faulty bill of goods and that everyone is not created equal. Some folks can’t walk, some can’t see, some can’t remember… but you… yes you… can do it… because you have everything you need now… to succeed!
Let’s join together and enjoy the first sweet tastes of that success. Is there a more classic vegetable side dish than glazed carrots? (I’ve heard they are good for your eyes.. so you can clearly see what you need to do!) Yet, the way they were made in by-gone-days, just like old programing on eating, was not so simple. With cooking you needed to know what to do in terms of adding the right ingredients and what tools to use, and whether to bake boil or fry to get the right results. If there was too much sugar, the dish would be cloying. If there was too much heat, the sugar burned. It isn’t difficult any more. Granny has found the perfect answer and it is so well worth doing, both the carrots and the Fairy Tale Diet.
Micro-Steamed Baby Carrots
Wanda wonders: “Why do these 4 servings of maple glazed baby carrots come out so yummy from the microwave in less than 3 minutes? Whenever I need to rely on a meal to impress, this is one delicious side dish that always cooks to perfection. It’s easy for me to add color, flavor and vitamins to any meal with out making my kids wrinkle up their noses.”
- 2 cans sliced carrots, drained
- 1 pkg Walden Farms Maple Syrup
1 Slice the carrots into 1/8 to 1/4-inch disks or diagonally. Try to cut the pieces so they are about the same size as each other, so they cook evenly.
2 Pour the carrots in a zip lock bag.
3 Cover with maple syrup. Toss to cover the carrots completely.
4 Place baggie in a bowl, do not zip closed, place in microwave for 3 minutes.
5 Toss the carrots once or twice to recoat them, pour into the bowl and serve. Serves 4 as a side dish.
