Gourmet DIY The Fairy Tale Diet Way 3 of 5

Some people are meat lovers, others fish or fowl… but I love the power of vegetables!

With all this cold weather moving in I figured this would be the perfect time to cook up a nice pot of hot, delicious vegetable soup.  This program lends itself to this chore easily!

My DH loves coming home on snowy days when the house is blanketed under white fluff, opening the door and be wrapped in the alluring fragrance of this soup we are sharing with you today.

The Fairy Tale Diet only uses certain veggies, but they can be mixed dozens of ways, although we are using them in this soup, you could even toss in beans, salmon, tuna, chicken or turkey, or all at the same time… just not today!

Let me tell you why we chose the veggies we did:

Broccoli, Zucchini, Green Beans and Celery are America’s favorite vegetables because they tastes good and are available all year-long in one form or another. They are a rich source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and bone-building vitamin K, and have plenty of fiber to fill you up and help control your weight. Many people know that beta-carotene (vitamin A) is not just found in orange and yellow vegetables, but that broccoli is an excellent source. You can eat all four of these vegetables raw, lightly steamed, stir-fried, roasted, boiled or grilled. Eat them as a side dish, or tossed into noodles, egg dishes, soups, and salads, a minimum of 2 servings every day.

Sweet potatoes or Yams are yummy members of the dark orange vegetable family, and they lead the pack in vitamin A content. Substitute a baked sweet potato, which is also loaded with vitamin C, calcium, and potassium for a baked white potato. Instead of adding butter or sugar, try Walden Farms Maple Syrup or their Marshmallow Dip, or taste the sweetness that develops when a sweet potato is cooked — and think of all the calories you can save by not loading it with all that fatting butter and sour cream.  Also avoid the salt! If you eat more foods like sweet potatoes that are rich sources of potassium, and fewer high-sodium foods, we can stop or radically slow down the effect of sodium on blood pressure and reduce bone loss. The other dark orange vegetables you can substitute into this diet at least twice a week include pumpkin, carrots, butternut squash, and orange bell peppers.

By eating our ‘manna’ vegetables and fruit you will be getting essential vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytonutrients (plant-nutrients) that your body needs to promote good health. Toss some in a blender and make them into juice.  If you want to punch the flavor try adding any of Walden Farms dressing. That makes it so easy to get these key vitamins and nutrients in one delicious drink. Every 8 ounce glass of vegetable juice equals one serving in the Fairy Tale Diet.

As you grew up you may have been told to eat your greens, but what about your  oranges?

The more different vegetables you eat, the more health-promoting properties you are getting.  They help curb your appetite too.

Vegetable juice should be a part of your weight maintenance or weight loss program. Check out the FREE RECIPE at the end of this blog… sure it’s for soup but every soup is just chunky juice, which can be very delicious and easy to make by tossing in a blender. Start your day with vegetable Juice and you are on your way. The Fairy Tale Diet is designed for on-the-go or at-home eating and offers lots of no calorie, no carb, no fat, delicious gourmet choices.

  • Are you aware that vitamins A and C are necessary for healthy skin? When you eat your vegetables that are rich in antioxidant vitamins A and C you will be supporting collagen production and skin renewal.
  • To maintain healthy skin cells throughout the body you must have vitamin A.
  • Collagen helps provide structure to our bodies, and connects soft tissue to our bones. Vitamin C is needed to make collagen in the body.

As one that suffers from Fibromyalgia, I believe everyone else with it should absolutely be getting at least the minimum required amounts of vegetables, in my humble opinion of course.

As for those of us with heart problems…

  • Low sodium dishes is heart-healthy, we try NOT to use any added salt!
  • Vegetables are an excellent source of potassium
  • Naturally fat and cholesterol free, vegetables are the way to go!

We made sure that the Fairy Tale Diet has foods that are a good source of potassium and low in sodium to cut the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.  I am a walking example of the benefits these veggies give after having had first hand experience with those deadly culprits.

Dr. Ben Kim, of Juice Advisor,  is regularly about the fastest and easiest way to get healthier. Without hesitation he says vegetable juice. Dr. Kim studied at the University of Toronto then went on to earn his doctor of chiropractic degree at National University of Sciences in 1997.  He proudly graduated summa cum laude, and joined multi-disciplinary clinics in Alaska, California, and Ontario.  Today, he lives and works in Ontario, Canada with his family.  He also is devoted to spreading the secrets that the diet industry does not want you to know.

The late Jack LaLanne was among the first to dispute the propaganda of the diet industry and tried to convince the public for decades that healthy eating was the way to a long life, not packaged or chemically treated foods.  He advertised his ‘Vegi-matic’ for juicing before it was ever popular to juice!  He was an American fitness, exercise, and nutritional expert, celebrity, lecturer, and motivational speaker who was widely referred to as “The Godfather of Fitness”. He was quoted with the following statements:

  • Your waistline is your lifeline.
  • Don’t exceed the feed limit.
  • The food you eat today is walking and talking tomorrow.
  • Ten seconds on the lips and a lifetime on the hips.
  • Your health account is like your bank account: The more you put in, the more you can take out.
  • It’s not what you do some of the time that counts, it’s what you do all the time that counts.
  • Eat right and you can’t go wrong.

We all know someone who is sold out on eating healthy… and we turn a deaf ear to them, as if they were preaching the word of G*d. It is too true!  These two great believers are/were right!

I do not even deserve to walk in their shadows but I believe just as strongly as they.  Conviction is what motivates anyone to success!

Look at it this way: If you are overweight, you did it to yourself.  No one held you down day after day and shoved poisonous amounts and types of food down your throat!

If anyone had even attempted such a thing you would have been kicking and screaming!

Start mentally kicking and screaming at yourself.  Stop what you are doing… walk away without a backward glance… say goodbye forever to that person, that lifestyle and break clean, once and for all!!!!

Are you convicted yet to walk away from habits that are killing you in order to live a life of health and delight in a new body?

Follow me… life can be a dream come true with the Fairy Tale Diet!

Start right this second, commit to it!

Go in the kitchen, your desk drawers, your purse and coat pockets, and everywhere else you have stuffed any kind of food that is not on the Fairy Tale Diet and toss them into a box… and either toss them in the garbage or give them away!

Then, if you are not too upset with my up front, in your face, attitude, (and I do not apologize, ‘cause it’s for your own good) make yourself a cup of tea, broth, soup, anything liquid, warm and good for you, slowly sip it and join me as we make positive healthy changes… together!

Today the weather is yucky. When the rain or snow is falling outside I just love to curl up on the couch, with a good book, or a classic ‘tear jerker’ move (Jane Austin books and films are my favorite) while sipping on a hot, delicious cup of tea or soup.  The versatility of soup is wonderful.  The FREE RECIPE for today can be tweaked with the noodles, beans, fish or fowl. You can add more or less of each veggie to soup your taste.  At Walden Farms you can try every different dip, salad dressing, pasta sauce, barbecue sauce or anything there that calls to you!  Some times it is nice to just have a plain and simple, yet delicious cup of soup. That is what we are making today. I just love it!

  • 1 cup of orange bell peppers, diced
  • 1 cup of broccoli, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 zucchini, diced
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can green beans
  • 1 pinch ground ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • ground black pepper to taste

  1. In a large stew pot, over medium heat, toss in all the vegetables, with their water and an extra 4 cups of water. Season with ginger and pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer 1 hour or stir until the carrots are tender.

Gourmet DIY The Fairy Tale Diet Way 1 of 5

I do not like thee, Doctor Fell,
The reason why, I just must tell;
The basic food groups you did sell!

Now I’m fat and don’t feel well,
I do not like thee, Doctor Fell.

Can you relate to that poem?  Each of us must find whatever works for us.  We learned to do a little research and started to follow our own created diet which is a bit Atkins, South Beach, no/low carb, no/low sugar, vitamin supplemented and even includes a fabulous pasta noodle that has no calories and no carbs, called The Fairy Tale Diet!

We took note of what Mother Goose, the Grimm’s Brothers, and other childhood poems tried to sell us over the centuries about our diet.  This five-post series will give you an overview of the finer points to how our diet came from concept to reality and works for us and it can work for you, too, without hunger or cheating!

We noticed two points of concern.  The brainwashing we have had since childhood and the guilt always associated with breaking a ‘normal diet’.  Lets work backwards for a moment.  The oxymoron ‘normal diet’ just gets me.  If we were normal we would not need to diet… and because every diet I had ever tried before seemed just like every other… well, you get it! So, then we learn that if we cut calorie intake for more than five days our body shuts down and our metabolism goes wacky.  That is where I got this fab idea, on five off two.  We reduce our intake for five consecutive days… and break the cycle for the next two days.  Then we start all over again!  It is so simple!  Life style change for the entire family, not just for one or two members!  This is a self-leveling program… You will only lose the weight you need to lose. There is no future maintenance program… this is the entire program!  Start to finish, from now to forever… young and old, fat or skinny, from this day forward for as long as you all shall live! On five off two!  The Fairy Tale Diet!  With the selection of high vitamin and mineral content, minus the rich caloric levels, we found enough of a variety to satisfy any gourmet’s delicate nature. If you cook, and feel creative… there are unlimited directions you can take this program using just what we lay out.

What if you work split days off… or a special occasion falls smack in the middle of your five days on the program? Fine.  So what?  How long did it take you to get in this condition… and how much longer did it take you, after you finally tried everything else, before trying this program? This is a race that will take a long time to win, if you go lame (in the head) or toss a shoe, get back on the horse!  You did not hurt a thing by falling off schedule one or two days. As long as in the over all scheme of things you really make the effort to play by the rules… you will win the race!

To address guilt:  there is none!  In your two days off… indulge your cravings and then start over when the five days on begin again, because you have to, in order to reset your metabolism!  Too simple!

We then address the teachings of your youth.

Our first clue that poems, rhymes, stories and tales that children learn make a lasting impression came from asking adult friends which ones they remembered.  Most of them related to poor eating habits and almost every person was obese.

Those that loved pasta did not remember the following poem:

Hey, Hey the old man yelled,

While he was eating noodles,

“Don’t eat wheat or processed meat”,

as he drew sweet yam doodles.

He said a mouthful about eating gluten-free and nitrate rich, hormone injected meats as he drew Glucomannan yam doodles.

So…we have included these wonderful zero calorie, zero carb, zero fat Miracle Noodles into our menus as a staple. These noodles come in so many shapes sizes and styles and do not need to be refrigerated or even cooked!  The perfect pasta for the person that burns water or needs a delicious, nutritious meal on the table in less than five minutes!

They leave us feeling full and satisfied for hours.  Pasta finally has no guilt … these can even be auto shipped!

Then from the nursery rhymes we became more convinced than ever that we needed to cut out refined sugar and processed flour.  That brings us to Polly and Sukey first.

These two sisters taught us that teas are good.  There are herb teas that can help raise our immune system while supporting good colon function. When certain teas, like hibiscus, are combined with certain foods that same full and satisfied feeling makes you look forward to tea time.  For a mid-day snack we use and suggest any Stevia, Splendex or Splenda sweetened hibiscus tea, with a slice of the delicious tasting Julian Bakery Carb Smart Bread (2 carbs per slice).  We only suggest you use this bread, also recommended by Dr. Rosedale.

 Polly, put the kettle on,
Polly, put the kettle on,
Polly, put the kettle on;
We’ll all have tea.

Blow the fire and make the toast,
Put the muffins on to roast,
Blow the fire and make the toast,
We’ll all have tea.

Sukey, take it off again,
Sukey, take it off again,
Sukey, take it off again,
They’ve all gone away.

Sugars and starches break down in our systems to give us immediate energy.  If, or should we say, when, we consume more that our body needs on a daily basis the excess is stored for future use as ‘FAT’.  ‘More’ equates to more than 20 total trans carbs.  Parents work hard to earn the grocery money and want to see that their kids do not go hungry.  ‘Clean you plate’ is heard at every dinner table. Carbs and sugars are pushed on the public on all sides, which makes Americans ‘FATTER’ than folks anywhere else on earth.  Adults should be ‘cleaning up their acts’ in regards to what they are saying, doing, and silently expressing when it comes to food consumption!

 Monkey see – Monkey do!

Mommy, make me fat like you!

Ignorantly, parents and teachers still recite ‘FAT MAKER POEMS’ to our young, unaware that they are reinforcing the brainwashing. Those poems are the direct opposite of what we should be doing and not at all what our ‘FAIRY TALE DIET’ supports.

I bet you can recite this next one in your sleep. Lol.

 I Scream,
You scream,
We all scream,

(Look for Bryers Carb Smart … yum!)

I will be posting delicious, icies and slushies, and frozen yogurt dishes as soon as the weather starts to warm!  We all crave sweets whether summer or winter, they just don’t have to be filled with carbs!!  That is why I have posted several of late, to get us through the holidays.

Hot cross buns!
Hot cross buns!
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns!

If you have no daughters,
Give them to your sons!
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns!

Is this poem about buying your child’s affection, no matter the cost or that no matter your child’s sex you can win them over with sweets.. or … what? Is it better to have fat children than healthy ones?

King Boggen, he built a fine new hall;
Pastry and pie crust, that was the wall;
The windows were made of black pudding and white,
Roofed with pancakes — you never saw the like.

(Did he eat himself out of house and home or was he so overweight already that they just surrounded him with whatever he wanted?)

How many of us remember jumping rope to this poem?

I once was a pretty little Dutch girl,
As pretty as I could be.
And all the boys in the neighborhood
Went crazy over me!

I baked a sweet Apple Dutch pie,
As sweet as it could be.
Now all the boys in the neighborhood
Call me Two Ton Tess-ie!

(Pretty is as pretty does… or does without!)

Little Jack Horner
Sat in a corner,
Eating a mincemeat pie.
He stuck in his thumb
And pulled out a plum,
And said, “What a good boy am I!”

First of all, when a child is sitting in the corner he is there either because he is being punished or he is a recluse.  He was showing off by not using his serving utensils, was playing with his food, and he was a braggart…all things considered therefore, he was NOT a good boy.

(If he ate the entire mincemeat pie all by himself, I guess you could say he was good… good and FAT!)

By the way… who ever bakes plums in mincemeat pies?

Georgie Porgy ate puddin’ and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry.

(It’s a crying shame that most girls’ don’t like overweight boys & visa versa!)

Pat a cake, pat-a-cake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can.
Roll it, and prick it, and mark it with a “B”
And put it in the oven for Baby and me!

(Why would a good parent feed their baby carbs?

What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice,
And everything nice,
That’s what little girls are made of.

(Sugar filled girls grow up to be obese women!)

Jack Sprat could eat no fat,
His wife could eat no lean,
And so betwixt the two of them
They licked the platter clean.

(Enough said on this one!)

.  The last one… Little Red Riding Hood, almost lost her life just to take a basket full of goodies through the woods to Grandma. And who in the world would want to give carbs to a bedridden, sickly, a senior citizen.  A kind and sweet heart does not mean that one should cause a potential dietary health risk to a sedentary, single, recluse.

What do the nursery rhymes and fairy tales teach us?  We accept concepts and ideas about people, foods, religions, and races… on what we hear repeatedly from those in power.

Now, we want to empower you by giving you information that can alter your life and those around you, for generations, if you are willing to step out from the crowd.

We will not make the decisions for you!  You have to be the one to fill out your shopping list, do the shopping, prepare the dishes, and stick to your guns. We are not the Diet Cops!  The Fairy Tale Diet Menus are to be created by you.  That is part of the magic. They are based on easy to get & eat foods that are packed with multiple nutrients to help you stay healthy.  There are five items crucial to this program that may only be purchased online, the links will be provided.

At Granny Peck Said  we offer the complete Fairy Tale Diet Manual that comes with a beginner cookbook, shopping list and menu planner for only $10 each or in Ebook for $5 each with recipes for each category of food covered in this five-part post. There are several other topics available also. Make no mistake… first and foremost we invite you to take advantage of all of our FREE RECIPES created just for the Fairy Tale Diet that I include at the bottom of every post, right here at this blog. Please feel free to link to or copy and share them.

Many folks who have given up dream of a potion or pill that has everything you need for perfect health and weight loss. They would not like it much … without the satisfying flavors we are addicted to! We all know that no such pill exists, yet.  There is a solution — something that promotes health and healing, wellness, weight control and tastes good, too. The children that wandered in the desert for eighty years were provided with manna food that fell from the heavens.  It sustained them, nourished them and more. During the times slavery was around and for all those incarcerated, it was up to ‘THE MAN’ to provide your every meal.  Today you choose what to eat.  As they say… you are what you eat.  We have done the research.

Further on in this five-part series you will learn of the hard-working “manna foods” that give you multiple disease-fighting nutrients that satisfy your hunger.  You can enjoy plenty of food without pouring on the calories, and these are mega-simple to include in everyday meals. What good is manna food that is hard to find, difficult to prepare, and the kids won’t eat?

Eaten as your everyday, happily ever after, regular diet, these foods will give you all the nutrients missing from most American diets. We Americans need to eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products.  That is no fairy tale!

Even the most acclaimed experts would quickly point out that our micro list of manna foods by no means includes all the nutritious foods that could be part of a healthy diet.  They have however praised us for the simplicity of execution and success in weight loss and maintenance resulting from this all-in-one diet. Please don’t forget that portion size matters, even when it comes to healthy foods. You will take more chances when eating simply prepared vegetables, but you must take care to eat other mega foods in sensible portions. A lot of foods like nuts are very nutrient rich, however, if you overeat them you will just be packing on pounds, (unless you only eat the delicious peanut butter we suggest) otherwise you will defeat your purpose! Here are the first few foods for (on five off two) 5 days a week:

    •  Eggs make our list because they are nutritious, versatile, economical, and a great way to fill up on quality protein.  If you are Vegan, omit them.  Most studies show that if you eat eggs at breakfast daily, you may eat fewer calories during the day and lose weight without appreciably affecting cholesterol levels. Eggs also contain 12 vitamins and minerals, including choline, which is good for brain development and memory. Enjoy no more than two of them a day, at any meal, boiled, fried, poached, scrambled, or hard-cooked as a portable snack or sandwich. (Use Julian Bakery Bread).
  •  Nuts have gotten such a bad rap because of their high fat content. However, their protein, heart-healthy fats, high fiber, and antioxidant content earn them a place on our list but only if they are consumed as Walden Farms Peanut Spread. That is the key to enjoying nuts. Even though all nuts are healthful in small doses, and studies show they can help lower cholesterol levels and promote weight loss.  By eating Walden Farms Peanut Spread, an ounce a day, will help fill you up. Use it to add flavor to salads, side dishes, baked goods, cereals, and entrees or on slices of apples or sticks of celery. It taste great alone, too, a spoonful at a time. Try putting together your own “low-calorie pack” of peanuts spread with veggies, berries or yogurt for easy and portable snacks.

Share a simple but delicious sandwich at lunch that will knock your socks off.  This free recipe serves 2. Our Egg Salad is just Nuts! LOL.

4 eggs
1 1/2 T Walden Farms Miracle Mayo
1/2 T Walden Farms Peanut Butter (just enough to barely taste)

Boil eggs for 15 minutes. Peel eggs and mash into medium bowl. Add mayo and peanut butter. Best served on Julian Bakery Smart Carb bread toasted or as a dip for veggie sticks.

Diets must change and be Forever Gourmet DIY

Many of you have heard and personally related to the comment Mark Twain once said about quitting smoking being the easiest thing in the world as he had done it several hundred times himself. Unfortunately, the same applies to changing your diet and taking steps to make sure that you are eating healthy and able to meet and maintain a healthy body weight, for the rest of your life. Most people reading this can attest to the fact that most attempts at dieting and changing your eating habits result in only short-term weight loss and that in time most of the weight lost is regained as you revert to your original eating patterns.

The percentage that is often quoted from a very old study on the subject places dieting failure at about 95% and while the study may be somewhat antiquated, the fact remains that according to the World Health Organization figures there are over 1 billion overweight people on the planet today, more than ever before. At the same time more people are attempting to lost weight than ever before and most diet plans, supplements and products profit from the high failure rate as it creates a large number of repeat customers. Why is it so hard for us to change our eating habits and lose weight? Most of us are at least somewhat aware of what not to eat but the change usually proves to be almost impossible, but it is indeed doable if you understand the whys and wherefores behind our ever-tormenting struggles with change.

First you must understand you

Your must first understand your food consumption patterns. If you do and you are patient enough you will be able to change it. Those government-funded and pharmaceutical supported so-called diet gurus would have you believe, a pill, as shot, an exercise machine will simply resolve your problems.  If that were the case then everyone would be successful in their attempts at weight control.  Much like cancer, the entire weight loss industry wouldn’t need to exist after everyone was successful after the trendy diet of the day, used the weight loss supplements being advertised or followed the in vogue exercise program featured in the magazines and infomercials.  The cures are out there… but so many people, companies, hospitals and clinics would close up their doors if the truth were allowed to be told to the public.

That certainly is not the case with every expert.  Over the past two decades of helping people with their weight problems I realized that if you honestly are ready to lose weight and keep it off you MUST change your lifestyle permanently. In order for this to happen there must be an unrelenting commitment to a change. Your commitment must be completely devoid of the destructive and self-loathing perspectives and belief that there must be some form of atonement for failures to stay on track.  That is stinking thinking!  “They” want you to feel guilty and return to the suckers’ treadmill and resign yourself as an utter and total failure.  You will be their life long slave.

It is human nature to believe that being ‘wrong’ requires a period of guilt, followed by some sort of soulful payment.  The whole concept about eating is wrong. Remember Eve? You slip, eating something that is forbidden and you go into a downward spiral of self-hatred and disgust. This self-infliction is ridicules. Instead G*d slapped her hand (figuratively), removed her from temptation, clothed her, and forgave her. (Sound familiar?) As familiar as it sounds it remains a major obstacle to long-term success.  So the Fairy Tale Diet is worked five days at a time.  You can make a guilt free lifetime commitment to five days at a time!

Do not let guilt make changing even harder

The reality is, there isn’t anything that you can do to make up for a slip in your diet. Nothing at all. Accept the moment… Stop thinking negative and start fresh the next.  You may be on the Fairy Tale Diet but… we do not have a magical wand for negative thinking. This way of thinking leads to too many eating disorders and a very twisted relationship with food. Accept the slips for what they are; learning experiences to teach us that we need to be better and stronger than what “they” want from us!

This change is forever!  Not some limited idea of getting into shape for summer or for some upcoming event or vacation!  No one ever became overweight overnight and we must accept the reality that permanent change happens over the course of many five days at a time, that become months, years, and decades.  Do not think about weeks or that getting into shape is just for a fling.  This has to be a long-term day by day process that helps you learn to take care of yourself not just to be looking great in a swimsuit. Nothing worth achieving in this life comes quickly.  Controlling your eating habits is no exception! It takes practice and it takes patience.

On a personal note, while many look at my body today and the determination that it took not indulge in processed foods of any kind, most overlook the fact that it takes decades to get there, and without any of the slips and mess ups I fell into along the way, I never could have learned the amazing lessons that allow me to be able to share them with you!  I lost the same 90 pounds 8 times in my life before I discovered the Fairy Tale Diet! … Join me and never look back again!

Understanding The Dynamics Behind Learned Behavior

Another important fact is accepting that you are no longer going to eat unhealthy foods, knowing that for you… they are poison! The very habits that we seek to change only resurface because they are not completely forgotten. As long as new and old ways of thinking are still rattling around in your head… they will always be fighting against you unless you take steps to disarm and cut those undesirable attitudes.

It is only when you are able to enjoy foods that are good for you that you will be able to break the cycle. Again, it does not happen overnight. Your new ‘comfort food’ will be foods that make you physically feel better and not junk foods that may lure you in while wreaking havoc on your body.  The temptation to indulge in the foods that you wish to avoid will fade into the background, a temptation that over time would simply become as unattractive as a lost battering love affair.

If you take small steps, large tasks are easily accomplished.

Take it from one who is on the journey a few paces ahead of you, as you get stronger, escape the darkness and start to see the light in the tunnel, you will be opening the doors to a whole new way of perceiving the world. One where limits are constantly being re-evaluated and where the seemingly impossible task of breaking free of the perpetually destructive cycle of weight loss and weight gain becomes very much a reality for you to enjoy.

Can you see my point! Well, I do pray for each and every one of you to find success.  I can only help you see if I can show you the words that will open your heart to finally love and for give yourself.  You must begin now to resolve to never turn back… to see that you were sold a faulty bill of goods and that everyone is not created equal.  Some folks can’t walk, some can’t see, some can’t remember… but you… yes you… can do it… because you have everything you need now… to succeed!

Let’s join together and enjoy the first sweet tastes of that success.  Is there a more classic vegetable side dish than glazed carrots? (I’ve heard they are good for your eyes.. so you can clearly see what you need to do!) Yet, the way they were made in by-gone-days, just like old programing on eating, was not so simple.  With cooking you needed to know what to do in terms of adding the right ingredients and what tools to use, and whether to bake boil or fry to get the right results. If there was too much sugar, the dish would be cloying. If there was too much heat, the sugar burned. It isn’t difficult any more. Granny has found the perfect answer and it is so well worth doing, both the carrots and the Fairy Tale Diet.

Micro-Steamed Baby Carrots

Wanda wonders: “Why do these 4 servings of maple glazed baby carrots come out so yummy from the microwave in less than 3 minutes?  Whenever I need to rely on a meal to impress, this is one delicious side dish that always cooks to perfection. It’s easy for me to add color, flavor and vitamins to any meal with out making my kids wrinkle up their noses.”

1 Slice the carrots into 1/8 to 1/4-inch disks or diagonally. Try to cut the pieces so they are about the same size as each other, so they cook evenly.

2 Pour the carrots in a zip lock bag.

3 Cover with maple syrup. Toss to cover the carrots completely.

4 Place baggie in a bowl, do not zip closed, place in microwave for 3 minutes.

5 Toss the carrots once or twice to recoat them, pour into the bowl and serve.  Serves 4 as a side dish.

Gourmet DIY Dieting 101 – Class 4 of 5

Once again we’re ready for this, our fourth class studying dieting!

Today we will learn the effectiveness of a strict low-carbohydrate diet.

So what do you think?

True or false: Weight loss is faster and more effective on a strict low-carbohydrate diet whether or not you exercise.

We will give you the answer in a bit…

They call them starvation diets: any diet that drastically cuts calories will result in fast weight loss, but it has been proven with research that fast weight loss tends to be followed by fast regain once the diet has ended. One needs to find a way of eating that they can manage for a lifetime that allows for cheating, holidays, birthdays, celebrations, travel, vacation, and well, life in general!

Weight loss results from eating fewer calories and putting out more energy with physical activity. The real proof that you pass the test of any diet is whether it helps you keep the weight off permanently.  That is why DH and I love our Fairy Tale Diet.

Following this low-carbohydrate diet for five consecutive days does put your body into a state called “ketosis,” which means your body has less or no carbohydrates to burn for energy, so it burns stored fat or whatever else is available. Ketosis tends to reduce hunger, so by midweek often you end up wanting to eat a very low-calorie diet.

Of course, it’s the calories that count when you are trying to lose weight. Even though every diet, one way or another, manages to cut calories, this one, The Fairy Tale Diet, cut them and then replace them with flavor, fulfillment, and satisfaction with the knowledge that at the end of those five days you can cheat and eat anything your little heart desires for two full days.

We will not have you be misled, as you cease to ingest the types of foods that are ‘pushing your body out of shape’ there may be some undesirable side effects of from this low-carbohydrate lifestyles, including constipation, bad breath, headaches, and potential vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

If you experience any of these reactions it is because your body is having withdrawals for the toxics you are purging from your body.  Feel free to consult a doctor.  We did and ours just wanted to give us drugs, laxatives, and told us to go back to including as much as 50% of our intake from carbs.

What else did we do… we walked out without taking one bit of his advice.  We ate prunes and increased the amount of Splenda and that took care of the constipation.  We ingested an occasional Mentos (10 calories each), peppermint tea, made peppermint cookies using LorAnn’s flavorings because peppermint is a natural aide to stomach disorders and helps the breath too.

Because we could satisfy ourselves with what ever we wanted 2 days a week, our bodies adjusted.  After a week or two the headaches went away by themselves.  The last remedy was easy… we did some research to find the fastest absorbing vitamin and mineral supplements and began taking them.  Problems solved.  Duh… Big Red Truck!

In the long run, most fad diet high in fat — especially saturated fat — may also increase your risk of heart disease and some cancers. For this reason we did not and do not suggest that you raise your fat intake… in fact we recommend just the opposite.

The National Academy of Sciences, NAS, suggests that everyone should eat a minimum of 130 grams of carbohydrates each day. Do the math. That comes to 520 carbohydrate calories a day. They also promote a 2000 total caloric intake every day! That would be fine if we were not all so overweight.  Most Americans eat 3000 to 6000 calories each and every day!

So how do we lose the pounds, cut back on 1/3 to 2/3 of the calories, and still enjoy eating, be satisfied and feel full? Our answer was simple: The Fairy Tale Diet and forget the exercise.

Why exercise?  If your goal is, say, to lose seven pounds this month… then someone somewhere will recommend just three 40-minute exercise sessions per week.   This month without exercise you’ll begin to burn those calories, boost your metabolism, and see those inspiring results.  The want to just start with 20 minutes of heart-pumping movement — go for a brisk walk, take a bike ride, jog, etc. and ending with a leisurely stroll for the last 10 minutes.  So managable… No squats, knee bends, sit ups, chin lifts, or other physically demanding ‘torture’.  Do it with your favorite music, an audio book, with a partner, you kids, your dog… just set your mind to the task…  It may be nice if you can devote that time to such an activity that can let you ‘get away’ and reduce stress (while wearing down the cartilage in your ankles, knees and spine), but…

Again you ask… Why exercise?  So do we!  Now we have hard proof!  MSN posted an article by a doctor, Karen Collins R.D., that tells us finally that the test results are in and that after a year there is no physical difference in the folks that faithfully exercised along with restricting their caloric intake and those that only dieted and never broke a sweat.

Let me repeat: Our answer was simple: The Fairy Tale Diet and forget the exercise!

So what do you think?

True or false: Weight loss is faster, more effective, and often maintained on a strict low-carbohydrate diet whether or not you exercise.

False. This was a trick question.  The key related to ‘a strict low-carb diet’. Any diet that drastically cuts calories without a break for an excessively long time will result in fast weight loss, but it has been proven with research that fast weight loss tends to be followed by fast regain once the diet has ended. Weight loss results from eating fewer calories and putting out more energy with physical activity has not been proven any more successful than caloric reduction/dieting alone.

So for a third time I say:  Our answer is simple: The Fairy Tale Diet and forget the exercise!

We have 1 more class in this study, low-carb calories vs other calories, and then… I will explain the unspoken dynamics of The Fairy Tale Diet.

You know that intake is restricted for five days and on the weekends you can splurge… but we will cover WHAT may be eaten during those five days beyond the items that we offer as FREE RECIPES.

Until then… here is one of my favorite side dishes (I do not eat pork and it is not in the Fairy Tale Diet… but Walden Farms makes the best bar-none artificial flavored dressing I have ever tasted… and has zero fat-carbs and calories):

Bacony BBQ Collard Greens

My DH coworker Steve told us: ”My 350 pound brother Eddie was over for dinner a while ago one night when we happened to be having collard greens. Ed had never had any of Granny’s dishes.  He was shocked by the super fast new way we prepare and serve these healthful, somewhat bitter greens – spiced up with barbecue sauce. Huh?  Ed normally hates collard greens, with or without the bacon, but as you can tell from his girth he does not hate food.  The special bacon dressing and Barbecue sauce in this recipe makes them smell oh so good. Well, that was enough incentive for him to try it, and I must agree, he and I both agree: collard greens are excellent served this way”.

  • 2 cans collard greens, chopped
  • 1/2 bottle Walden Farms Honey BBQ sauce
  • 1 packet Walden Farms Creamy Bacon Dressing

Pour in the BBQ sauce, dressing, and the greens in a microwave bowl and stir ‘em up. Heat on high about 1 minute.

Serves 4.

These are sooooo delicious, no one walks away from 50 calories per serving! Enjoy Granny’s Gourmet DIY Diet aka The Fairy Tale Diet.

Class dismissed ‘till later

Gourmet Fast Cheap Delicious DIET Dishes

You want to lose weight and still enjoy gourmet dishes?

Welcome to Granny’s Gourmet DIY.

After you read this, you will want to favorite our site to be able to shop for the items needed and once back home prepare a fabulous meal that others will believe was catered from a fine restaurant that only makes high calorie fattening foods.  Only you will know that it is low-carb and either low-calorie or no calorie and only took you 10-20 minutes from package to table, and that you did it all yourself, DIY.

Never tell them that it was much, cheaper than those catered guys.  Just coo when the complements flow and tell them that these delicious flavors were magical and that they would be surprised at how you slaved over the stove… just for them.

Many of our dishes require online purchases for the ingredients but the cost and nutritional values and flavors are amazing!

My secret ingredients and shopping lists offer you the chance to create DIY, gourmet, low carb, nutritious meals from the box to the table in under 10-20 min and most of them are under 400 calories.

Thirty years ago I owned and ran a very successful establishment in Sacramento, California named Bo Jangles.  Life happens and time goes on and yet my love for feeding others has not died .

I was going to start a new home delivery service called ‘Order Dinner In’ using my special menus but… I live in an area where it either rains or snows for 8 months out of the year.  Compile that with the fact that 2 heart attacks and 1 stroke later I have decided that driving in those conditions can be bad for my health! (Not to mention the lives of those that I may ‘acidentally run across’ literally, should something happen!!!!)

We have lost over 150 combined pounds and are not quite ready to post photos… soon though… because like you we need and want to lose pounds and lose inches.  We eat the recipes we cook – five days in a row… and on the other two days, the days we do not post… we eat anything we want.

So… being on the creative side, I did some crafts and I have written a couple of how-to books and compiled a couple of cookbooks (using the recipes I was going to prepare for my ‘OrderDinnerIn’ clients and have helped us lose all this weight) that are now available if you are interested but I will also be giving you a free recipe every weekday. be it an entrée, a side dish, desert or beverage.

I guess what I should have named todays blog  is: PREVIEWS OF COMING ATTRACTIONS! LOL!

We will not be delving into the topics of politics, religion, children, romance, the weather or fashion.  They may be mentioned in passing on occasion but the main purpose here is to give you a dish that will WOW your taste buds at a price you can afford and as fast a lighting to prepare!

If this all sounds great to you…  then I’ll be back again with menus and shopping lists ASAP.
